Seedance 2 Mini API
Pre-launch preview of the cheap-iteration Seedance branch on fal.ai
10 dated guides on what Seedance 2 Mini is likely to be, what it is not, and how to try the Seedance 2.0 stand-in on fal.ai right now. No invented numbers, no hype, real pricing math on the live endpoints.
Dated, opinionated, written once and kept current. Every entry is one subject, answered. No filler between the signal.
Frequentlyasked.
01What is Seedance 2 Mini and when does it land?
Seedance 2 Mini is the lower-cost, faster-iteration branch of the Seedance video family. As of May 2026 the endpoint bytedance/seedance-2-mini/text-to-video is in pre-launch preview and not callable on fal.ai. A public ship date has not been announced, so any source citing a calendar week or a fixed price is guessing. We track the fal.ai/pricing line and the family release notes; the moment the endpoint goes live and the rate publishes, this page updates. Until then the playground on this site runs the Seedance 2.0 stand-in so you can evaluate the family voice now and switch the endpoint string later.
02Why run Seedance 2 Mini on fal.ai?
Once it ships, bytedance/seedance-2-mini/text-to-video will sit alongside the rest of the family on a single fal.ai async queue. That means one FAL_KEY across 600+ models, one @fal-ai/client SDK in TypeScript, Python, and Swift, and one billing dashboard that itemizes spend per endpoint so the cheaper Mini tier shows up clearly in your reports. The queue supports webhooks for fan-out jobs, no cold starts on hot endpoints, and regional points of presence for lower latency. Free credits on signup let new accounts kick the tires, and the fal team answers integration questions in Slack and Discord. The Seedance 2.0 stand-in available on this site today runs through the same queue, so your wiring is already correct.
03How can I try the Seedance family today before Mini ships?
The playground on this site calls bytedance/seedance-2.0/text-to-video as the documented stand-in for the unreleased Mini endpoint. Every chip in the rail (resolution, duration, aspect ratio, generate_audio, seed) matches the 2.0 schema, and every render carries a caps label so you know which model produced it. If you want to call the 2.0 endpoint from your own code, install @fal-ai/client, set FAL_KEY, and pass a prompt plus the same chips. When Mini opens, the endpoint string flips to bytedance/seedance-2-mini/text-to-video and the rest of your call stays the same.
04What will Seedance 2 Mini cost per second?
No rate is published for bytedance/seedance-2-mini/text-to-video yet. We do not invent a number to fill the table. The two anchors that matter today: Seedance 2.0 bills $0.3034 per second at 720p with native audio included, and Kling v3 Pro bills $0.112 per second with audio off. The Mini suffix has historically marked the cheaper iteration tier in the Seedance family, so the Mini rate is expected to land below 2.0. Until the line shows up on fal.ai/pricing, plan capacity against the 2.0 numbers and treat anything cheaper at launch as a tailwind, not a guarantee.
05Does Mini use the same prompt grammar as Seedance 2.0?
Historically yes, the Mini branch in the Seedance family has shipped the same input schema as the Pro tier of the same generation. Prompts you write against bytedance/seedance-2.0/text-to-video today (descriptive shot block, optional dialogue in single quotes, lighting and lens cues, ambient sound notes) are the safe pattern to keep. The chip rail on this site already mirrors the 2.0 schema for that reason. Expect the same fields to apply once bytedance/seedance-2-mini/text-to-video opens: prompt, resolution, duration, aspect_ratio, generate_audio, seed. We will publish a diff guide if any field is renamed, dropped, or constrained at launch.
06What maximum resolution and duration will Mini support?
Not published yet. The 2.0 endpoint at bytedance/seedance-2.0/text-to-video offers 480p and 720p with durations 4, 5, 8, 10, 12, and 15 seconds; the Pro 1080p ceiling reaches the legacy 1.5 Pro line. Mini caps will land in the family's release notes. If the prior generation pattern holds, expect 720p as the headline ceiling and a duration range that matches or narrows on the 2.0 set. Treat that as a working hypothesis, not a commitment. We will replace the Preview cells in the comparison table the moment the spec sheet publishes.
07Will Seedance 2 Mini generate audio in the same pass?
Seedance 2.0 generates native audio in the same forward pass at no extra cost, controlled by the generate_audio boolean on bytedance/seedance-2.0/text-to-video. Whether Mini carries the same joint audio path or moves to a silent-by-default render is one of the open questions for the preview. The chat surface on this site keeps the audio chip in place for parity, and the 2.0 stand-in respects it today. When Mini ships, if the audio path differs we will surface the change in the chip hint, in the pricing notes, and at the top of the model overview so you do not have to dig for the diff.
08Will Mini support reference images and reference videos?
Seedance 2.0 carries a 12-file multimodal surface on bytedance/seedance-2.0/reference-to-video: up to 9 image refs at 30 MB each, 3 video refs at 2 to 15 seconds combined and 50 MB total at 480 to 720p, and 3 audio refs at 15 seconds combined and 15 MB MP3 or WAV. Mini may carry the same surface, a pruned subset, or none of the reference paths at launch. The expectation across the family has been that the Mini branch keeps image refs and drops one of the heavier channels to hit the cheaper rate. We will publish the confirmed list as soon as the endpoint opens; until then, plan against the 2.0 reference surface as the ceiling.
09Seedance 2 Mini vs Kling v3 Pro: which should I pick?
Today the pick is Kling v3 Pro because Mini is not callable yet. fal-ai/kling-video/v3/pro/text-to-video lands at $0.112 per second with audio off, $0.168 with audio on, and $0.196 with voice control, with duration 3 to 15 seconds and aspect ratios 16:9, 9:16, and 1:1. Once Mini ships at bytedance/seedance-2-mini/text-to-video, the comparison axis is family voice and reference surface against per-second cost. If Mini's rate lands near Kling's audio-off price and keeps the Seedance reference grammar, the cheap-iteration crown swings back to the Seedance family. We will publish a side-by-side once both rates are confirmed.
10What should I migrate from Veo when Mini lands?
Veo 3 on fal sits at $0.40 per second, the high end of the current shipping cohort. Pipelines built against Veo 3 that prioritize broadcast-grade color and a 4K ceiling are not the target for Mini. Pipelines that run Veo 3 for short-form social content, agency b-roll, or pre-vis storyboards are the obvious migration: those usually use 720p output, sub-15-second durations, and value cheaper iteration. The migration path is one endpoint string swap (Veo 3 endpoint to bytedance/seedance-2-mini/text-to-video), a chip-rail review against the Mini schema once published, and a render parity pass on five representative prompts. Veo 4 is not yet live on fal; treat any Veo 4 vs Mini comparison as preview-versus-preview.
Seedance 2 Miniat a glance.
Seedance 2 Mini is the lower-cost, faster-iteration sibling of the Seedance video family. The 1.0 release set the baseline, the 2.0 release pushed quality and added a 12-file multimodal reference surface, and the Mini variant is the next branch in that lineage. As of May 2026 the Mini endpoint is not live on fal.ai. You read about it here because the family signal points to a near-term preview. Treat every number on this page that is tagged Preview as a placeholder; we update the second the public endpoint ships and the pricing line lands on fal.ai/pricing.
In the Seedance lineage, the Mini suffix has historically marked the same architecture pruned for speed and price. You give up some of the headline ceiling (resolution, single-shot duration, the heaviest reference modes) in exchange for cheaper iteration cycles. If the pattern repeats with Seedance 2 Mini, you should expect a per-second rate that lands below the $0.3034 per second that Seedance 2.0 charges at 720p, with the same input schema, the same multi-shot grammar, and the same prompt vocabulary your team already wrote against the 2.0 endpoint.
While the Mini endpoint is in pre-launch, the playground on this site does not sit idle. The chat surface calls bytedance/seedance-2.0/text-to-video as a stand-in, and every render carries a clear caps label so you know you saw a 2.0 render, not a 2 Mini render. The chips above the box (resolution, duration, aspect ratio, generate_audio, seed) match the 2.0 schema; once Mini ships, the chips stay and only the endpoint string changes. You can run prompts, evaluate the family voice, and decide whether Mini is on your shortlist before it launches.
On pricing posture, the two reference points that matter today are Seedance 2.0 at $0.3034 per second at 720p and Kling v3 Pro at $0.112 per second with audio off, $0.168 with audio on, and $0.196 with voice control. Veo 3 is the high end at $0.40 per second. A Mini-tier offer that beats Kling on quality and matches it on per-second cost would be the interesting position. None of those numbers are confirmed for Mini yet, so the comparison table on this page disclaims the Mini row.
The reference-to-video story is the one we plan to track most closely once Mini lands. Seedance 2.0 already proves out a 12-file multimodal surface (up to 9 images, 3 videos, 3 audios in a single call), and the question for Mini is which of those channels carry over and at what duration cap. Native audio, multi-shot pacing, and the family's strong character continuity on multi-image briefs are the line items this publication plans to compare side by side the moment the preview opens.
- 01Pipeline owners pricing out a cheaper iteration tier than Seedance 2.0 while keeping the family voice
- 02Studio teams who want to lock in prompt patterns now and switch endpoints at launch
- 03Researchers tracking how each Seedance family branch trades quality for cost
- 04Indie creators who plan to ship short-form work and want a Kling-tier per-second budget
- 01Your budget needs a per-second rate below Seedance 2.0 at the same family voice
- 02You iterate fast on prompts and want a low-friction render loop before locking finals
- 03You already wrote prompts against Seedance 2.0 and do not want to re-author for a different family
- 04You need to evaluate the family in pre-launch by running the 2.0 stand-in on this page
Every Seedance family endpoint ships on fal.ai's async queue with one API key, one SDK, and one dashboard for spend, so the moment the Mini endpoint goes live you flip the endpoint string and ship.
